Third place in the “Pharmacy Student of the Year” competition

23 April 2026

On March 27, 2026, the national “Pharmacy Student of the Year” patient counselling competition was held in Budapest. The city of Pécs was represented by three pharmacy students who qualified for the final at the 15th Pécs Student Competition in Patient Counselling and Pharmaceutical Care in Practice: Mónika Lilien Mariczki, Hajnalka Szmik, and László Schreiner.

This year’s competition topics were antipyretic use in childhood and allergic rhinitis. Our students prepared diligently for the competition over a period of one and a half months, with the support of Dr. Róbert Vida and Dr. Júlia Sokoray-Varga.

On a windy, rainy day, the competitors from our faculty arrived at the headquarters of the Hungarian Chamber of Pharmacists, where they were warmly welcomed. The hospitality included hot tea, sandwiches, and pastries. Before the competition, students had the opportunity to meet participants from the other three universities, which led to a pleasant and friendly conversation.

As in previous years, participants had to solve two clinical scenarios related to the above topics within 10 minutes.During evaluation, the four-member jury assessed professional content, communication, correct problem identification, patient education, and pharmaceutical intervention separately.
We are pleased to announce that Mónika Lilien Mariczki achieved third place, and we sincerely congratulate her!

Lilien shared her thoughts about the competition:

“It was a great honor to represent our faculty, among others, at the 15th Pharmacy Student of the Year competition held at the headquarters of the Hungarian Chamber of Pharmacists. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet students from other universities and talk with them. Everyone approached each other in a friendly and open manner. The competition itself turned out to be more challenging than I had expected, but this is what made it truly unforgettable and educational.”
Quoting Paulo Coelho: “Trials are sometimes harder than we imagine. But they are essential for learning, and each one brings us closer to achieving our dreams.”
